Verona NY
June 2, 3 and 4th 2022
Opening ceremonies were held at the Turquoise Tiger where these Elvis impersonators offered up some songs and entertainment.
There were even kids who would be competing the next few days.
The evening offered us a sneak peak of what we would be hearing and seeing over the next few days. I have to admit, it was pretty impressive.
We had diner at Flos diner, home of the 5 cent coffee and a giant rooster statue parked out front. The following day began competition.
These master impersonators were beyond impressive. The maner, moves, dress and song were mostly identical to The King.
We spent the day listening to Hound Dog, Love me Tender and Blue Suade Shoes.
We enjoyed some relaxation back at the hotel we were staying at in Canasota, NY. Home of the Boxing Hall of Fame.
The afternoon was back at the Festival. This was the step up part of the competition. The outfits became more jeweled, bedazzled and glamorous!
I didn't realize how many songs Elvis had as I had never been a big fan. I knew the popular songs, but truly enjoyed some of the ones I wasn't so familiar with as well. I was also unaware of the many gospel songs he had.
The afternoon was host to some professional Elvis impersonators. (I know, who knew)
We didn't have plans for the evening, but I knew the horse was running a race not to far from where we were, so we made our way to Vernon Downs to watch my/our horse Kisses From Above run his race.
He came in 1st place!!!!! All if our group got to stand in the winners circle.
The following day we watched the am show and wrapped up the trip. We didn't get to stay for the awards and winners, but I'm sure it was a difficult job for the judged. They were all pretty amazing. I enjoyed the event so much I even purchased an Elvis t-shirt. A few months later I was able to watch the recent Elvis movie. I found his life story both impressive and tragic. Much enjoyed. Thanks again Tulip Travel.
