Queensbury, NY- 1000 Acre Ranch
October 20-22, 2021
This October I was able to take a trip with Tulip Travel to a Dude Ranch in the ADK's of NY. I have never been to a dude ranch so I was very excited for the opportunity. We, as chaperons had to support 20 something travelers, but it went very smoothly.
Our party was assigned to cabins that were right next to the river. It was very pretty and the cabins were rustic. We had some great views right off our porch.
After settling in we headed to the main hall where we played some games, did some art projects and watched a movie before dinner.
The ranch had a wonderful dinner planned for us and we all ate like it was our last meal. Yummy. Bed was welcomed. I had two roommates while I was there. They were not a problem.
I woke up way to early and enjoyed my games on my phone in the dark as I waited for the rest of the world to awake. Eventually I heard what sounded like a rooster being choaked. Yep, he was the funniest sounding rooster I have ever heard. He doesn't seem to be here with these ladies, but I got to hear him the next morning as well.
We had a visit with the farm animals. These are some BIG PIGS. (I was assured that these guys were not on the breakfast menu this morning.) This guy was so fat, he attempted to stand up and couldn't. He surrendered to allowing a chicken make him a stage. Breakfast amazing country style yum.
We had our breakfast and headed to the horse arena. Horse back riding was the big event for this trip and some of the travelers had boots, hats, chaps and even helmets for the ride. Apparently, this is a regular even these guys take every year. Some of the guys even remembered the horse hands.
Now, I haven't ridden a horse in over 20 years, but I was certainly not going to miss my opportunity to ride on this trip. I actually took lessons in college, but that was even longer ago and not Western style.) We own two horse, but they are race horses so we don't ride them. So, my experience is pretty limited. Initially I didn't think I was going to actually do it. BUT here I go.
They offered both trail rides and coral rides. Of the travelers 10 went on the trail ride the others did the coral. Both Annette and I went on the trail. My horse was named Kiwi. The trail was absolutely beautiful and the horses did all of the work. At one point Kiwi did get a little agitated at another horse, and he tripped on a rock. On the trip I slipped downward, but luckily he pulled himself out of the trip and didn't fall. I absolutely loved the ride.
After every one had their rides we had a nice lunch and played BINGO. I almost won.
Before long it was dinner time and we ate like hungry cowboys. YUM! The meals were insanely good!
That evening there was a dance party and a DJ. We all danced and had a wonderful time. I snuck off to the fire pit for a little warmth before bed.
The following morning I was up ready for the day. The days plans included more horse back riding, games in the rec. room and relaxing. I enjoyed time in the lodge while several of the travelers went on a second horse trail ride.
The grounds were so pretty I enjoyed walking around and getting a view of the fall leaves changing.
Soon everyone was back at the lodge and we were packing up to head home. It was a wonderful few days away country style. TTFN
