Virginia 2023 Bush Gardens, Williamsburg

Williamsburg, VA
July 11-14th 2023

Again, I was blessed to be on another Tulip trip and this time we were heading to the state of Virginia. The first day was all travel. These are difficult day as traveling with a large group of people with several individual needs can and usually are stressful. Bathroom breaks, are always longer and much more frequent. Keeping yourself occupied along the way seems so much more difficult....but we were almost there.....and after a long long day of driving we were all ready for some fun and food at a local Racino.

We ate at the food court and enjoyed some gaming before we made it to our hotel and all of us fell off to sleep easily.

The next day we headed to Bush Gardens. This is a theme park I have never been to before.
This park is BIG and very spaced out. The areas are broken into themed countries. We made our way to England Ireland and Scotland, and honestly this was where we spent 90% of our time.

The park is a pleasant mix of beautiful landscapes, rides and experiences and animal conservation. It also hosts shows and is the home to the Sesame Street Characters.

We all spent a little time with the Clydesdale horses. Each of the guys getting a picture.

Then we rode the train and enjoyed just viewing all of what the park has to offer. Up next we rode the gondola ride which took us high above everything giving us a birds eye view. Unfortunately it was so hot that we had a few individuals who struggled to tolerate the heat.

It was incredibly hot, and we had to slow down our pace, often just sitting in shaded areas for long periods of time. Annette and I took some of the guys on this log flume type ride. That was great fun.

Views from the gondola.

The day simply ended up being disappointing because we were all melting.  Getting from point a to point b was killing all of us to walk in the heat, so once again we found ourselves sitting in shaded areas and not fully enjoying the park.

Edie and I got into these buckets.

The park itself is absolutely beautiful. I do wish we had the opportunity to explore more, but the heat had us all dragging. We had lunch in Italy, before starting our way towards the exit. Several of us rode the water plunge one last time of us missed the indoor air conditioning  show by seconds. They would not let us in and I did try. Oh well.

Just a few things to think about if you do visit. Virginia in July is HOT. The park is paperless, so you will not be getting a paper map to reference where you are, and you cannot use cash to buy things as you leave. I personally thought the prices were very high here. Now I have been to the Bush Gardens in Florida, and it does seem that this is the same there as well. The park is beautiful and although it was hot, there were no crowds. (Smart people), so we didn't have any lines. I would enjoy another visit, just when it is a little bit cooler. Air conditioning wanted so we were off. We spent the rest of the day enjoying the hotel pool.
The next day we headed to Williamsburg, where we intended to spend the day at Colonial Williamsburg, but once again it was another HOT day. If you have been to Colonial Williamsburg, then you know, everything is pretty much outside. And most of the sites are also in the sun. I know, I did this during COVID and it was hot and we had to wear a mask. So we did do some shopping and had fun doing that before we headed to the museum.

The museum was interesting and they had lots of cool air. I'm not sure what the theme was, I guess Colonisium.

We had lunch in the museum, then spent the rest of the day shopping.

We had a nice dinner, and enjoyed a quiet evening in the hotel. My roomie and I spent the evening watching Little House on The Prairie reruns. It was fun, but I am ready to go home already.
The following day, we got packed up and headed out as soon as possible. 8 hour ride home.  Maybe next time, we can go in the spring, or even the fall.  TTFN
