Wolf Mountain

Wolf Mountain
Smyrna, NY
December 8, 2019

First I have to SAY WOW!!!! WOLVES , yep WOLVES !!!!! Wolf Mountain was one of the best experience I have had locally ever and I didn't even know it existed until I was here. The Outdoor women had planned this activity and I knew the minute I read Wolf , I was in. Wolf Mountain is located in Chenango County, so it was a bit of a distance from my home to get there, and it was a little bit scary of a drive with all the fresh snow that had fallen. I even thought about turning around and going home when my GPS took me to a closed for the season road. Home sounded even more  inviting when I saw the steep mountain my car would need to climb to get to the top, and I was sure I was going to go home after I attempted to walk up that same mountain I had decided NOT to drive up and fell flat on my BUTT.

I am so glad I was not deterred by such obstacles, because atop that mountain were these beauties.

I even got to say hello to the Grinch, and there were dog sled demonstrations being performed.

As it would be, today at Wolf Mountain was Christmas, and the wolves were getting presents.
In the packages was meat. I learned that chicken bones of noncooked  chicken does not split and will not get caught in these guys throats.
They are so incredibly beautiful.

These are coyotes, they were much more shy then the wolves were and I was only able to capture a picture using my telephoto lens.
They remind me so much of my pup Riley. Beautiful.

These Arctic Snow foxes are not native to the area. I did inquire about how they handle the summers here in Central NY. Apparently they do just fine.

The younger fox has a grey color and as they age the white is enhanced.

A selfie of me walking back down the mountain to my car. Of course I fell on my way down, just as I had on my way up. I should have taken a picture of the road to give an idea of  just how steep it was, oh well, it had been an amazingly beautiful sunny winter day full of furry stark creatures and a great view too.
Great winter adventure! TTFN
